The Marketing of False Promises

I have to admit, I was led astray from the straight and narrow. Carbon fiber can be formed into sexy curves and undeniably beautiful graphics. But carbon fiber, like any other reinforced plastic, is just that, plastic. Fibers of carbon fiber, fiber glass and nylon only serve to hold a matrix of plastic resin. We are just beginning to understand the volume of plastic in this world. Microplastics have been found in human lungs and organs. Perhaps the future will be organically reinforced human plastic bodies. Could be worse I suppose.

Most outdoor toys these days that propel us effortlessly across land and water are some form of reinforced plastic resin. Boats, skis, bikes; all gorgeous results of marketing false promises. Personally I’m migrating back to one of my all-time favorite materials, Titanium. A naturally occurring mineral. Number 22 in the Periodic chart. A thousand times stronger than steel by weight, non-corrosive and virtually indestructible. Quite possibly the Mithril of Middle Earth or the famous Valerian steel in Game of Thrones…the straight and narrow. Mined, smelted and mostly produced in…wait…what?…Russia?! Shit…never mind.

Got something to say? Lemeno.
