Today is World Single Speed Day. No, I didn’t make that up. I do however relish it. I’ve been singlespeeding on my bike for, well, all my life. Why I SingleSpeed is a backstory I’ve told many times.
There are, in effect, three speeds in any singlespeed bike. Sit and spin, stand and deliver, get off and walk. I suppose it could be a metaphor for just about anything in life. Perhaps that’s one reason I relish the simplicity.
My new desert home is surrounded by over a hundred miles of perfect singlespeed terrain. Perfectly built, buff singletrack that swoops and climbs serenely around the Saguaro desert. After exploring it last season, I’ve recommitted myself to the added challenge and ultimate simplicity of childhood riding.

Got something to say? Lemeno.
