A Line in the Sand

Time again for the 24 Hours of Old Pueblo ride. Some call it a race but those folks are always in a hurry. For me, it’s a chance to do what I truly love to do. Ride my bike. As long as I choose to. The course is a 17 mile line in the sand. Pressure treated and hand-worked to near perfection after a dozen or so years.

After 11 years of this, the length of that line in the sand is completely weather related for me. If the weather is nice, I’ll keep riding. If Mother Nature throws a hissy fit then the line could be much shorter.

The energy of several thousand mountain bikers is undeniable. The support and camaraderie is inspiring. 24 hours of bikes, lights, music and energy; then in an instant, they’re gone. Leaving nothing but a few cows, coyotes and line in the sand.
