The Paganus in All of Us

The Pagans had it going on. Long before some religions were getting their feet wet, pagans were worshiping the important things in life. Grass, rocks, trees, dirt. The word pagan is from the Latin, paganus, which loosely translated meant rural or country and evolved into meaning “country folk”. As Christianity started to take hold for city folk, the country folk still embraced all things natural especially the cycles and rhythms of daily country life. The Christian city folk referred to their country cousins as pagan, meaning not Christian. City folk have a way of screwing things up. Especially when it comes to nature. Pagans developed their own way of celebrating all things natural like dancing naked in the moonlight, dragging large rocks hundreds of miles and setting them up so they could watch the sun, moon and stars through them. Weird shit like that. I gotta say, though, given the choice, I’ll choose country living any day.
