It’s been one year and 268 posts since I rebooted my blog.
I had originally started a blog several years ago after a good friend and college computer mentor had bugged me about it. He suggested WordPress because they had been around for awhile and had web enabled access. I didn’t need a fancy, stand alone app. I tried WordPress and found it to be awkward and code heavy. Being a Mac convert from past Windows days, I knew it could be easier. Apple had a simple app called iWeb (how clever). It was easier to post to even if it didn’t have a lot of power behind it. As Apple evolved into cloud computing, they decided that iWeb was no longer relevant (whatever). I moved things over to a free Google service imaginatively called Blogger. It worked, it was free so what the heck. I got bored with its limitations and got sucked into the omnipresent Facebook, Tumblr scene. More boring and invasive. One of my pet peeves with FB is that most people who use it, use it as a “look at me, look what my cat just did” kind of in-your-face rubber mallet. Who gives a shit what your cat just did except you.
I decided to take another look at WordPress. Several years had passed and a lot had changed with blogging. I haven’t looked back. I can’t say enough good things about WordPress and the people who work there. It’s easy to use, sophisticated in its results and I can couch-blog on my iPhone. What more could a lazy old Singlespeeder want. If anyone is even considering letting the world know what they’re thinking, consider a blog. It’s easy to publicize your posts with Facebook friends and not be intrusive or blatantly self-serving. Anyone can visit your thoughts, ideas, rants and yes, your cat’s antics anytime they feel like it, not anytime you want to bludgeon them with it.
So, I’ve given you my blog pitch. The real reason for this State of the Union address is to thank all my 81 followers who have viewed my weird take on society’s missteps 2,740 times this past year. My blog is a simple, fun, creative way to express myself and occupy my non-riding moments. It also keeps me from tormenting the neighbor’s cats as much. If, at any time, you feel like commenting or have a suggestion, please do. I’m here for me but I do want to keep you entertained and returning. And I hope it has been entertaining for you……and your neighbor’s cats. Thanks. See ya on the Internet.
