Here’s to the man who inspired countless others. Here’s to the man who transcended the word “handicap”. I still remember Doc’s first concert after his son Merle tragically died. I was visiting a friend at Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. As the lights came up on a dark stage, two chairs were all that were present. Doc’s helper came out with Doc on his arm and helped Doc into the one chair. Doc never said a word about Merle and simply lit the place up all night long with an empty chair next to him. It still gives me chills. So long, Doc.

Got something to say? Lemeno.
