It sounds kinda’ agro. It can be but like other aspects of cycling, there are various forms that have been marketed and promoted as “specialized”. Like BMX, trials, half-pipe, street. Whatever, just go ride your bike. So Urban Assault is a genre. There are Urban Assault tours and competitions. Whatever, just go ride your bike. Take the agro word “assault” out of the equation and urban riding takes on new meaning. A Townie by my definition is old and possibly beat to shit. Very few upgrades, the fewer upgrades, the more points. Old Schwinns and Raleighs are part of this urban group. Brand new Electras and Swobos are a whole new group of Townie. You can’t buy old and beat to shit, you just can’t. Well you can buy old and beat to shit old but not new. K? Urban cruisers are in this Group. There are levels of urban cruisers. The old lady on the three wheeler… Hey, at least she’s getting out. And I’ve seen some agro grannys out there, by the way. There are converted mountain bikes. Raise the bars, put flat pedals on and lower the comfy seat a little bit. Sit a little more upright but still have a bike that handles worth a shit. All kinds of Townies fit into this group.
At the pinnacle of urban cycling is legendary Danny Macaskill. If you haven’t seen his talent, check him out in the MyTube section. There is no substitute.

Got something to say? Lemeno.
